Description

A tough and beautiful plant with fan-like green leaves and clusters of delightfully red/purple speckled orange flowers resembling an orchid.

Flowering for weeks over the summer, the seed pods open in autumn, showing clusters of black seeds whose supposed resemblance to a blackberry gives the plant one of its common names, "blackberry lily."

Previously known as Belamcanda chinensis, and also known as Leopard flower.

Limited stock.

Care

Full sun to part shade in well drained soil. Perfect for woodland garden edges getting both sun and shade. Frost hardy throughout Australia, especially if mulched. In areas with very winters bulbs should be lifted in the autumn and stored in a cool but frost-free place over the winter, replanting in spring.
